The following is a news release provided by Ann Gibbon Communications:

The Dailey Method White Rock is owned and operated by Judie Wilson in partnership with The Dailey Method of San Francisco.  Wilson is a competitive athlete who worked as an instructor in the inaugural Vancouver Dailey Method before deciding to open her own studio.  Friend Jey Wyder, who owns the Vancouver studio with her sister Karen, sparked Wilson’s passion for The Dailey Method when she urged her to take a class last year. “I instantly loved it.”
Wilson said The Dailey Method, which combines barre work, core conditioning, stretching, and orthopedic exercises to strengthen, tone  and lengthen the entire body, was the perfect complement to her competitive sports. “It’s made me a better overall athlete.”
“I want my studio to help clients of all fitness levels and ambitions to reach their desired level of health and well-being. The Dailey Method can help anyone, from the sedentary person or weekend jogger to the high-performance team sports player,” added Wilson.  One such team athlete is Neil MacLagan, from White Rock and studying at the University of Victoria, where he’s on the rugby team. Under Wilson’s guidance, he has been practising The Dailey Method ever since she introduced him to it last spring. “I’m amazed by how much stronger I have become after doing The Dailey Method,” he said. “I am also far more flexible than ever, and that is crucial to injury prevention, particularly in a sport like rugby where the risk of injury is high.”
Angie Hartshorne, a stay-at-home mom of three kids under age eight, attests to the quick results. When her youngest child turned one last year, she wanted an exercise program to help her regain muscle tone, but nothing too extreme. Within just a few weeks, she noticed increased muscle tone and core strength.  “The classes are a great stress reliever,” she noted, “making me a happier mom to my kids.” Wilson said the studio welcomes men like Neil who wish to enhance their athletic abilities with flexibility and strength training. The hour-long workout is ideal for anyone who wants a quick and effective workout that provides fast physical results.  Canada’s first Dailey Method studio was opened by Karen and Jey Wyder in Vancouver’s Dunbar community in 2010. They had purchased the rights from Dailey Method founders Jill Dailey McIntosh, who has a background in kinesiology, and her husband Doug McIntosh. The couple owns the franchise. The Wyders’ studio has garnered a loyal clientele, with more classes and staff added to accommodate its growth.

From mid-March to mid-April, the Junior Kindergarten students from CEFA held a loonie drive with the objective of raising money for the Canucks for Kids Fund.  This was done through bake sales and doing chores at home to earn loonies.  In total, they raised $612 - beyond what they thought they could accomplish.  The children are very excited to be able to help other local children with medical, sports and social programs.

CEFA (Core Education Fine Arts) is a leading institute in childhood education in British Columbia.  Their “I Contribute to the World” program teaches students that they really can make a difference. One of the children said “It was so fun to raise all these dollars because we want to give it to children who need it more. We can help them!” What a great concept to understand at an early age!  During the month of the loonie drive, they talked about why it’s important to help others and build a habit of giving.

Congratulations to the students from CEFA on a great accomplishment!

The Shops at Morgan Crossing laid out the pink carpet last Friday for their successful A Night of Fashion event, and I had the pleasure of being invited as a feature blogger in order to raise awareness of the event, which promoted the area's shopping and dining amenities, while helping to raise funds for Arts Umbrella

Arts Umbrella is a not-for-profit arts education centre located in The Shops at Morgan Crossing that has several well structured arts programs for kids, so the funds went to a great community cause.  Raffle tickets were sold during the event and a lucky winner went home with a prize package worth over $2000!  I wasn't lucky enough to win, however I was given a free lash experience at Noir Lash Lounge that evening. I have to admit that I was a little nervous about it but ended up being pleasantly surprised at how great the lashes look - and feel! I had the 'Le Fling' treatment done, which is just a half set (upper) lashes. I received many compliments on how natural they look, and what I'm most surprised about is that I can't even tell they're glued to my eyelids! I highly recommend starting out with the Le Fling lashes for $35 if you're unsure of the process and if you'll find the lashes comfortable or not because they do last for two to three weeks.

After my lash treatment, I enjoyed some fresh baked biscotti from Notti Biscotti, courtesy of The Shops at Morgan Crossing. I always thought of biscotti as being a tough biscuit that you can break a tooth on, however these are crunchy but slightly moist at the same time. I couldn't leave that night without stopping in and purchasing some for the rest of my family. By the way, Coco Loco is my favourite :)

On to the rest of the evening....I made my way past the latest BMWs on display (had to stop and look of course) and then on to various clothing stores with my girlfriends to check out the deals. Most of the items at Jacob were 40% off so we ended up buying a few items there. The fashion show at Banana Republic showcased some gorgeous well put together outfits for the career woman, and Muse Social Fashion House offered shoppers refreshments as they browsed their new spring line.  Calvin Klein's store was also receiving much traffic due to their incentives. In store they also had a media wall that seemed to attract a lot of attention, making shoppers feel like celebrities!

I ended the evening with dinner at Sushi Castle - one of my two favourite sushi establishments in South Surrey, and a fashion show at Hudson Madison hosted by Fiona Forbes. The fashion show featured clothing by almost all of the popular retailers at the shopping centre.

Overall, it was a very well planned event that included activities for both men and women alike.  There were refreshments, great DJ music, swag bags with Calvin Klein perfume, great deals on treatments, clothing and home decor.

Congratulations to The Shops at Morgan Crossing for holding such a fun and successful event!

I am always impressed by the ingenuity of mothers, and as many of my readers already know, I make it a point to promote local businesses, therefore my focus this week is on a company that began out of a need by one mother looking for ideas for hot lunch items for her daughter to take to school.

Karla Swan started The Soup Tureen in October of 2010 when she bought soup from a family friend for her daughter who would only take hot lunches to school.  Karla loves to cook but found it difficult to come up with new ideas for lunch items everyday, so she began looking for a product that was low in sodium and preservatives, but still had flavour that would appeal to kids.  Karla began purchasing the soups from Serious Soups in Delta and found it was a big hit with her daughter, and shortly after, other moms took interest in these soups.  Thus The Soup Tureen Home Delivery was started, when their supplier was not interested in non-commercial sales.

Two months after starting The Soup Tureen, Wendi Spoor joined Karla in the business because she felt that the convenience and wholesome soups would be a hit with busy families.  They continue to operate their business from their homes in Ocean Park, where they live with their husbands and two daughters each.   Karla is a self-employed consultant in health care and has experience with other small businesses.  Wendi is a teacher at Crescent Park Elementary.

If you are interested in purchasing soups from The Soup Tureen, it couldn't be easier, with ordering online at www.souptureen.ca and then having it delivered right to your doorstep.  The soups come frozen in 800ml servings and there are 26 selections to choose from, ranging from Classic Chicken Noodle to Butter Chicken or Coconut Curry Vegetable.  They also carry many soups for a variety of specialty diets including vegetarian, gluten and dairy free, listing all ingredients on their website.

Purchasing from The Soup Tureen is a great way to save time and eat healthy, while supporting a local business.
